Building Asia-Pacific’s readiness for Alzheimer’s disease
The APAC Alzheimer’s Readiness Consortium aims to contribute to resolving the escalating public-health, economic, and social challenge of Alzheimer’s disease across the APAC, a mega region where ageing populations are particularly prevalent despite rapid economic development.
The Challenge
Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias have become a fast-escalating public-health, economic, and social challenge worldwide, and especially across Asia Pacific (APAC).
The scale of the crisis is accelerating faster than current policy responses. In APAC alone the burden is projected to surge from roughly 26 million in 2025 to nearly 71 million by 2050 as populations age.
With Alzheimer’s disease accounting for 60-80% of dementia cases, there is an urgent need for action across the full spectrum of Alzheimer’s disease. Yet health systems remain predominantly oriented toward late-stage care, missing critical opportunities for early detection and intervention.
